Although little is known about Eric Donaldson as a performer he has made a major impression on the reggae world through some of the songs he has written and recorded.
One of Jamaica's classic reggae singers and composers who ranks alongside legends such as Ken Boothe, John Holt and the late great Delroy Wilson. His Unique voice led to MOJO Magazine nominating Horace Andy as one of the "Great 100 Voices" of the 20th. Century.
While maybe not as internationally famous as his fellow performers Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs, in Jamaica during the second half of the 70's he ranks alongside them and was certainly one of the most popular founder members of the Dance Hall style.
Bob Marley, as well as becoming the first Reggae Superstar is also revered in Jamaica as the man who proved you could rise from the ghetto of Trenchtown to stardom.
As probably the best known reggae band after Bob Marley & The Wailers, UB40 have never made any secret of the the fact that not only were they inspired by reggae, but they also had many hits by covering tracks originally recorded by Jamaican reggae artists.
Reggae Goldmine is a label which is dedicated to releasing classic reggae material from as many sources as possible in the form of single artist and multi-artist compilation CD’s and vinyls.
The reggae/dancehall compilation set "Serious Reggae" kicks off the brand new 'Serious Series' release programme on the new founded EMI PLUS label. The artists featured are a roll call of musical talent, most of them well known to a wide reggae audience.
Compilation sets, cd box sets etc. mostly have one thing in common. In most of the cases you always see the same names on the trackinglist; vintage tunes drawn from the back catalogue of companies such as Trojan and Creole Records. Not really interesting for reggae fans all over the world. This (low-budget !) box set however has been compiled by Mikey B., whose knowledge of reggae music stands surety for a wicked selection of tunes from past and present.
