Savana - Yutes dem huslin'

Savana has been the talk of England this year, and for good reason. In addition to his skills as a rapper, sing-jay and MC, he’s also a talented lyricist, vocal arranger and producer. He’s a modern-day renaissance man in other words, even at this comparatively early stage of his career. His ear for catchy melodies and hook lines is second to none, and he has a sharp eye for potential in others too, as several of his discoveries Jason, Leanne, L’il Miss D, Danger, Tia and Meta 4 join him on this groundbreaking new set. His versatility is confirmed by the ease with which he draws from a wide range of different influences, including pop, r&b and hip hop, as well as dancehall. His style is so fresh and new it hurts, which may explain why club audiences have embraced his music so wholeheartedly, and several of these tracks have already left such an indelible mark upon the British urban scene this year.

His best-known hits to date are Dilemma a reggae cover of Nelly & Kelly Rowland shared with Davida, a no.1 hit on the UK reggae charts in the spring of 2003, Girls, Party, Pretty Lady and All I Have a hit cover of J-Lo & L. L. Cool J track shared with a young singer called Leanne. That too, blazed a path up the UK reggae charts, leaving us in no doubt that Savana was a real star in the making. It was these songs together with rapturous receptions for his club, concert and festival performances that cemented his appeal as one of the UK’s brightest musical prospects, and form the bedrock of his brilliant debut set. It didn’t take a genius to recognise that Savana had what it takes to succeed with his musical ability, his confident, likable personality, his willingness to work hard and learn new skills and just as
importantly, his crystal clear vision of where he’s headed.

Look out too, for a stunning remix of I’ve Got Girls; a trio of songs recorded with the UK singers Lloyd Brown and Don Ricardo, as well as Baby I’ll B Der, which is already a confirmed favourite of club and radio DJs with its loping, r&b inspired flow. True 2 You, Hey Yo and Use 2 Dis Mi could hit on any level, whilst hardcore ragga fans will love Vanish Ur Body, Gal U Hot, Gal A Wine and Summertime as Savana flashes his raw-born, Jamaican
dancehall credentials. A self-confessed party lover, he’s not afraid to get deep on occasion either, with Something Not Right, Yutes Dem Hustlin’ and Mama all touching upon more serious topics, and ensuring this album’s lasting appeal to audiences from all walks of life. Whether it’ll change the face of urban music here in the UK remains to be seen, but no one can dispute that it’s an entirely bold effort, brimming with vitality and the best indication yet
of where British based reggae’s headed in future.
